My Real Joy, M.S.L.

A high school senior recently asked if I would tell her about Emory University, the university from which I graduated this past May. Over pasta and salad I began to tell her about different aspects of the school, what classes I enjoyed and what extracurricular activities I joined. While speaking with her I realized that I enjoyed my college years immensely; however, that had very little to do with the school I attended. I had some great experiences, but there was a registration in me that said, “But that wasn't your real joy.” My real joy in college was the Lord. And during my five years in college I had some friends who shared this same joy. They were my fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Each week several other students and I would get together either to read the Bible or to read a ministry book by Witness Lee. I truly looked forward to these times. While reading the ministry, I found so many of my questions about life and what it is to be a Christian answered. In addition to my weekly reading time, I went to a family's home every Friday for dinner and post-dinner singing and fellowship. In total, about 20 brothers and sisters in the Lord, all ages, gathered together in this home weekly to praise and enjoy the Lord. So, throughout college, and even now, I met with the brothers and sisters in the local church in Atlanta, Georgia--a group of Christian believers who love the Lord and “call on His name out of a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:22).
